Amarena Cherries and Experimenting with Demo Scripts

My wife rocked my family’s world by adding Amarena cherries to a French toast casserole… and it made me think about how presales teams need to experiment with their demo scripts.

Story time…

So I wanted to make a particular French toast casserole for my family’s Christmas brunch this past weekend; a classic recipe that we all love.

Sandi had an idea to add some Amarena cherries to it as a twist on the classic recipe.

When she pitched the idea to me, I instantly thought… “Why change up what has worked well in the past? What if no one likes it? What if it ruins the brunch?” 😰

As I was hyperventilating… she calmly explained that it was "just an experiment".

And if it didn’t work… it would be fine:

1️⃣ There were plenty of other dishes for people to enjoy; it wouldn’t tank the whole brunch.

2️⃣ We always can go back to the original recipe for the next family brunch; no biggie.

In the end I agreed that we should try it, and boy oh boy am I glad we did…

It was the SURPRISE HIT! 😋

How is this like presales teams experimenting with their demos?

When Sandi first mentioned adding the cherries… I fell into the same mindset that too many sales and presales leaders fall into about their demos…

😐 Why change up our demo script when it seems to work just fine?

😬 What if the change doesn’t land with the audience?

😱 What if it ruins the whole demo?

Yeah, the experiment might not work.

It might not land.

Assuming you put more than 5 seconds of thought into the change, you know deep down that it won’t ruin the whole demo.

But… you might just find that the change is a surprise hit. 🙌

If you never try anything new, you might be missing out on your demo version of our new fam fav French toast casserole with Amarena cherries.

And that would be a real shame. 😎
